Timeless (12/?) by Elisa P. Black Natalie quickened her pace. There was no way she could let Mulder and Scully examine the bodies. What if they found out that she'd been holding back evidence on the case? She couldn't hear anything else after Mulder's offer to help. What were they doing? Just a few more steps... She turned the corner and saw Mulder leaning over the body. He seemed to be inspecting the corpse's neck. Scully stood beside him with arms crossed and a wry expression on her face. Schanke watched Mulder's examination. One of the other coroners, thankfully not Jensen, stood by the desk. He looked up. "Why hello there, Natalie, dear. How are you?" "Hi, Tom," she tried to look cheery while watching Mulder from the corner of her eye. He had looked up and seemed to be scrutinizing her. "I'm fine, thanks. And you?" "Good. This case is a bummer, no?" She laughed, trying not to appear nervous. "Yes, it is. Hello, Schanke, Dana, Mulder. Mulder, I heard your offer to help from the hallway and that would be very nice. But Dana has told me about how she wanted something of a vacation while she was here..." She trailed off and hoped that Scully would jump in. "Um, yes, I did. Mulder, I'm sure that these coroners will be able to take care of the autopsies." Yes!, thought Natalie. Mulder looked back and forth between them for a moment. "Scully, can I talk to you for a minute?" Mulder lead her down the hallway. "What's up, Mulder?" "I want you to do the autopsies. You'll be able to catch things that these people won't." "What are you saying, Mulder? That these coroners aren't reliable? They are supposed to report any anomalies they find." Mulder lowered his voice. "I got something in the mail yesterday. It was a folder with information on Knight, Schanke, and Lambert. There's something about these people and I want to know what exactly it is." End of Part 12
